Smart Homes run for Cancer Charity Fund

Smart Homes, based in Shirley and Dickens Heath, have undertaken yet another challenge to help a Charity close to their hearts. Smart Homes, voted best Agent for three consecutive years by allagents.co.uk, ran the Half Marathon on 16th October 2016 to raise funds for the Ward 19 Charity Fund.

Ward 19 based within Heartlands Hospital specialises in the cutting edge treatment of blood diseases, particularly cancers of the blood and lymphatic system. As a team they offer the best possible care, as well as the latest treatments, for patients with complex blood disorders.

Director Jamie Smart is obviously very proud of his team. Talking to the Observer, he said “I am a firm believer that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Many of our staff volunteered to run with us and with the help of friends and family we had a team of twelve people running”.

The Fund was started by Dean Field, who will be known to many Shirley residents. During the time Dean spent at Ward 19 he noticed that there were many things still required that would make the Patients time spent in hospital more comfortable.

Jamie and his brother in law were invited to visit Ward 19 to discuss how Smart Homes could assist in further raising awareness of the work Dean had started. Jamie comments, “I was touched by how passionate the nurses are. Their desire to help and support patients outside of their normal working day is overwhelming and I am positive that these people will ensure that the funding raised from the Birmingham Half Marathon, as well as other events, will be spent how Dean would’ve liked”.

Jamie Smart took the opportunity to visit Ward 19 again, this time to present the nursing staff with a cheque for the money raised from the Half Marathon. Jamie said “I have been honoured and humbled by the generosity of people. We have raised over £1500 pounds for the Fund and we will continue to support this fantastic cause. Thank you to all the runners and those that sponsored us, without you this wouldn’t have been possible.”

“I can’t quite believe that the run was over 3 months ago. We have begun the year the same as we ended 2016, already performing above and beyond our local competition. We are looking forward to an exciting year on both a business and personal note and I cannot be prouder of our team of people who dedicate so much of their personal time helping others. Thank you all” says Jamie.
